Double Triumph for DesignPro Automation at Regional Business Excellence Awards
[Limerick, 19th November 2024] – Rathkeale-based technology firm DesignPro Automation achieved a remarkable double victory at the prestigious Limerick Chamber Regional Business Awards, securing both the Best SME award and the coveted Best Overall Business title.

The Limerick Chamber Awards, is held annually by Limerick Chamber, with Technological University of the Shannon as partners. The awards are designed to acknowledge companies in the local region for their innovation and commitment. Over the years it has showcased some of the region’s finest businesses and entrepreneurs.
DesignPro Automation, which specialises in providing cutting-edge solutions for the medical devices, robotics, and automotive industries, emerged victorious from a field of 24 nominated businesses across all categories to claim the top honour at the gala event, attended by over 400 business and political leaders including Taoiseach Simon Harris at the Limerick Strand Hotel.
The Best SME award sponsored by AIB recognises companies in the Mid-West Region that have been operating for more than three years and demonstrate excellence in creating world-class products and services while setting high industry benchmarks.
Redmond McDonnell, CEO of DesignPro Automation, expressed his delight at the recognition:
“It means a lot to the company. It’s peer recognition from the Limerick Chamber and the Mid-West community. It’s confirmation of all the hard work we have put into where we have got today.”
Currently employing 60 people, primarily at their Rathkeale headquarters with additional operations in Malaysia and Bulgaria, DesignPro Automation has established itself as a cornerstone of the West Limerick business community. McDonnell particularly emphasised the role of local support in the company’s success:
“It’s a super community. The local community are fantastic from the traders in Rathkeale to the greater Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale area.”
The company has successfully tapped into the region’s strong technical talent pool, drawing employees from across County Limerick, North Kerry, and parts of Cork, demonstrating the vibrant technical capabilities present in the rural economy.
With plans for continued expansion in 2025 which includes the development of a newly designated R&D hub DesignPro is showing no signs of slowing down, which is evident in the number of opportunities currently available and their plans for a big recruitment drive in the New Year.
