Toolmaker

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will hold a Level 6 Toolmaking qualification with at least three years post-qualification experience in a toolmaking/mechanical environment. Working knowledge of the setup, operation, and programming of CNC lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and surface grinders is required. Exposure to the layout, fabrication and assembly of metal working parts including analysis of drawings and 3D model specifications.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team in a busy environment and be exposed to the most up-to-date technologies and systems in the machine building industry. A high level of initiative and adaptability is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Layout/fabricates and assemble metalworking parts by analysing drawings and 3D model specifications.
  • Ensure all required materials are ordered.
  • Sets up, operates and programs CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, drilling machines and surface grinders.
  • Understand/interpret mechanical drawings, sketches, engineering specifications, DXF & step files.
  • Perform machine-control offsets/basic NC modifications to enable the production of products that meet close tolerance limitations.
  • Use a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Recommend revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on “machine-ability” or fabrication problems encountered.
  • Carry out machine maintenance.
  • Ensure all parts manufactured meet the required specifications and standard of quality.
  • Ensure all work is carried out according to production/customer deadlines.
  • Responsible for carrying out internal and external tooling inspections.
  • Carry out calibration on internal equipment.
  • Support the Assembly team as required in the Assembly of equipment as per the 3D module, ensuring dimension and fit meet the specified requirements.
  • Maintains the work area in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Maintain quality records and adhere to quality procedures.
  • Ensure all duties are carried out according to health and safety policy.
